We know there’s never a good time to have a toothache, but dental injuries can happen at any time, to anyone, and often in the least predictable situations. So, knowing what to do when a dental injury occurs is critical.
In all emergency cases, call Clove Dental as soon as possible. We will guide you on what to do until you can see a dentist. Here are some of the common emergency dental cases that require immediate referral to the emergency dental clinic.
Severe tooth pain:
Severe pain or extreme tooth sensitivity to touch, heat, or cold requires immediate referral to Clove Dental emergency dentist. It can be due to tooth decay or abscesses.
Loose teeth:
Loose teeth and painful chewing along with red, swollen, or bleeding gums indicate advanced gum disease. If the gum disease is left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss or even heart disease.
Jaw swelling:
This symptom around the mouth or jaw area may indicate lymph node or tooth infection. Rarely, this symptom is related to cancer. If you have severely swollen jaws accompanied by severe pain, you are in a dental crisis and need to refer to the emergency dental clinic immediately.
Broken tooth:
If you have a broken tooth, wash the tooth with the physiological serum immediately, and refer to our emergency dental clinic.
Pregnancy toothache:
Emergency dental treatments can be done at any time during pregnancy, so you should never take painkillers during this period to relieve pain. In this case, you have to contact us and head to our emergency dental office quickly. Keep in mind that you should not take any medicine without the permission of the dentist. It may be harmful to the mother and fetus. The emergency dentist prescribes medication if needed.
Oral ulcers:
These superficial ulcers are caused on the inner surface of the cheek, gum, and tongue by chewing, brushing, eating hot foods, or irritations caused by orthodontic brackets. An antimicrobial mouthwash can remove bacteria and clean the ulcer. If your wound does not heal within a week to ten days, you should refer to our dental clinic.
Nocturnal Toothache:
One of the most common dental emergencies is nocturnal pain, a pain that comes while sleeping. It requires a series of useful precautions to avoid the risk of insomnia. If you have a toothache at night, it is better to get up from lying position and place your head on two pillows so that your head is positioned higher. You can rinse your mouth with water as well as taking painkillers to relieve pain temporarily until you get to our dental clinic. If the pain is severe or associated with swelling, put a cold compress on the cheek for 10 minutes. Repeat this periodically until you reach the emergency dentist.
Knocked out tooth:
If your child’s milk tooth is knocked out, do not try to reinsert it in its socket. A primary tooth cannot be re-implanted again. If your permanent tooth is knocked out, try to find the tooth and store it in a glass of water or milk until you get to the emergency dental clinic. It should be emphasized that if you get to the dental clinic within 30 minutes of the injury, the emergency dentist can save your tooth.
